Fans of\u00a0“Pankow”, Rio Reiser, Veronika\u00a0Fischer or Mikis Theodorakis didn’t miss out at yesterday’s evening in Weidenkuppel\/Ehmkendorf.<\/p>\n
Rainer Kirchmann\u00a0was on the billboard,\u00a0showed up and touched spirit’s and soul’s with his song’s.<\/p>\n
He also played severe tunes\u00a0of his Mikis Theodorakis-Program, presented song’s of his soundtrax written for various movies – and songs, played earlyer day’s with singer\/songwriter Anette Berr.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The\u00a0title of his program, same title of a song he wrote to a movie called “Abendland” (“Nightfall”) by Fred Kelem\u00e4n. Same movie got presented (first german movie since twenty year’s) in english movietheater’s. Kirchmann wrote the music to it.<\/p>\n
Despite the fact that Kirchmann is able to pull of a lot of different musicstyles (rock, chanson, worldmusic) he still got his own “handwriting”. From piano and guitarplaying in a “unorthodox manner” to a vocal stretch of a countertenor.hard musical contrary’s are combined in a song. So the Boulevard Expert-Press about the artist who’s cradle ones stood in Luckenwalde, who went to the Music Highscool “Hanns Eisler” to studie vocal, piano and composition, who worked in project’s: band’s like Prinzip,Veronika Fischer, 4 PS,Pankow<\/p>\n

An astonishing metamorphosis:<\/p>\n
Ex – keyboarder of the Band “Pankow” R.Kirchmann never really stood out.Allthough he wrote that song “Langeweile”,still – he seemed to\u00a0be standing in the shadow of singer A.Herzberg and J.Ehle.<\/p>\n
Now, recently Kirchmann\u00a0discovered an forgotten opus of 1967 by Mikis Theodorakis and brought the whole music-event on stage together with Maria Faratouri (the priestress of Theodorakis).<\/p>\n
That is BOLD.<\/p>\n
But, if you look closer – \u00a0it wasn’t really\u00a0that surprising, because Kirchmann was touring with the big Greek already in 1990.<\/p>\n
A couple of year’s later he discovered that Songcycle, that Theodorakis wrote in the summer of\u00a0 67.<\/p>\n
Theodorakis got sentensed to jail by the military junta.<\/p>\n
Behind “Sun and Time” – the illusion and the wish to be free.Behind bar’s the “inmate” drowned in the vision of the far world, which was close and yet so far.He bemoaned the hoplessness in his country.<\/p>\n
In the 70’s “Sun and Time” was performed on stage by Maria Faratouri. An english translation conveyed enormous renaissance\u00a0to that music-piece.<\/p>\n
R.Kirchmanns performance not only carry’s the spirit of being a Theodorakis “re-discoverer”, he also is\u00a0performing in a crowded house (Passionskirche) as well.<\/p>\n
He himself is singing with Farantouri.That fact alone top’s all daring boldness.<\/p>\n
His old Band “Pankow” only allowed him to sing “uh la la la”.What a contrast. Kirchmann sing’s deep from the inside with soul and passion. He even connect’s rockballad’s with the greek language.<\/p>\n

“Sun and time” is played by classical greek instrument’s, appear simple and work they’r way into the soul.<\/p>\n
Right next to the vocales, you’ll find the percussion carrying the song’s. In the second part of that music-piece you’ll even\u00a0find Kirchmann playing an distorted guitar, strollin’ carefully along the edge of rock n’roll.<\/p>\n
The highlight was a duett Kirchmann\/Farantouri, almost a slight spirit of a wunderfull hippie-summer.<\/p>\n

It is rather rare to catch rainer kirchmann on stage.,and if you do,-you’ll find him most\u00a0of the time by himself.<\/p>\n
His brandnew solo-program called “on the way to the paradise”. He is accompanying himself by playing the – \u00a0grandpiano,keyboard or guitar.<\/p>\n
It’s a teriffic cross-cut through out\u00a0his\u00a0creativ work,\u00a0he’d done during\u00a0his versatile\u00a0artistic\u00a0period of\u00a0the last\u00a0couple of year’s.<\/p>\n
Some Pankow\u00a0& Theodorakis-song’s , – chansons ,\u00a0– dating back to the time where he worked with singer Annette Berr and\u00a0a selection of\u00a0song’s he wrote for severe film & theater-pieces.Authentically and a artisticly a\u00a0“no compromise” – additude characterizing his new song’s,same like\u00a0 old hit’s in a minimalistic fashion.<\/p>\n
A voice and an instrument , that’s plenty enough to bring the powerfull\u00a0song’s back to life.<\/p>\n
A real convincing show of\u00a0a composer and a performer who further more\u00a0bring’s his own lyric’s to life as well.<\/p>\n
his musical education got the former toolmaker – apprentice at the legendary\u00a0 “dance – music specialclass of the musicscool Friedrichshain.Later on – he studie’d piano,<\/p>\n
vocal’s and composition at the “HfM Hanns Eisler”.<\/p>\n
at that time rainer toured during the weekends\u00a0with a\u00a0 band called “the raven”,- the best<\/p>\n
local – act of Luckenwalde at the time.1970 he already had his first TV-apierence at the<\/p>\n
Heinz Quermann Talenteschuppen (Talent-surch) called “Herzklopfen kostenlos”.<\/p>\n
Right after that,- Rainer joined his first professional band called “Progressiv”,where he was contributing his first song’s.1977 he filled huge festivals and big stages with the Hardrockband “Prinzip”. Rainer wrote the “Prinzip”- hit “Weit ist die Strasse”.<\/p>\n
1980 he replaced Franz Bartsch ( Veronika Fischer – Band “4 PS”) who deffected to the berliner west – sector .After two tour’s Veronika Fischer herself decided to deffect to the west.The remaining musician’s of “4 PS” – Rainer Kirchmann,J\u00e4cki Reznicek,Frank Hille &<\/p>\n
J\u00fcrgen Eble coninued and joined together with ex – “Gaukler – Singer” Andre’ Herzberg to set the cornerstone of\u00a0a band named “Pankow”.<\/p>\n
Their first\u00a0 rock – spectacle “Paule Panke”\u00a0took care of a nationwide\u00a0 stir and problem’s with the government.<\/p>\n
The (at that time) former TV-circusdirector Renz had the opinion :”you have to\u00a0create a\u00a0NEW genre for a band like “Pankow”.Nobody knew how to cope with such an act.<\/p>\n
No airplay, no deal and even Recordcompany “Amiga” kept the hand’s off that rock-show.<\/p>\n
In their lyric’s the band pictured\u00a0harsh a\u00a0day to\u00a0day situation of a youngster called “Paule Panke”.That again was a thorn in the eyes of the governmental section responsible for the cultural part of the country.It didn’t fit in the\u00a0“socialist – immage” they had about themself.<\/p>\n
Parallel to\u00a0that time Rainer also went solo,wrote music for severe theater-pieces and even went ont stage becoming an actor (1987 “Paule Panke -Theaterplay \/ Theaterhouse Schwedt ).<\/p>\n
In 1990 Rainer joined the ensemble of Mikis Theodorakis and toured through out Europe.<\/p>\n
1996\/ Rainer was quitting Pankow and begann to work with Chansonsinger Annette Berr.<\/p>\n
Parallel to it Rainer is spending his time\u00a0diving deep into that songmaterial\u00a0(Song-cycle “Sun and Time”) of Theodorakis,which Theodorakis wrote in 1967 being inprisoned by the<\/p>\n
Millitay -Junta in Greece.<\/p>\n
A Live -futtage was made during his performance with Maria Farantouri at the\u00a0Passions –<\/p>\n
Kirche by Berlin, which got broadcasted only in Greece in 1999.<\/p>\n
A publishing of a new Solo -Album is sheduled, which Rainer tracked together with<\/p>\n
Jannis & Thanassis Zotos,Christian Sade and Ulrich Mai\u00df.<\/p>\n
